Holgate has seen a busy but positive period going into the summer recess!

We had the pleasure of initiating Brother Alex Nicholson at our April lodge!

Alex is already well established within the Holgate Lodge and proving himself to be an active and popular member.

Alexs`s friend and fellow mason Richard Stibbles flew down from Scotland to attend his ceremony.

Richard is a member of Scoon & Perth No3.

Judith House is a refuge for women and children escaping from domestic abuse and is a registered charity doing amazing work in the Barnsley area!

Many thanks to our Brethren for their generosity and giving to this worthy cause.

Ray also presented a cheque for a staggering £2000 from the Barnsley Branch of NARPO (National Association of Retired Police Officers).

The first Quarter of 2024 has proven to be a really strong start for the Holgate Lodge!

We were pleased to initiate Bro Scott Coggin at our January Lodge.

Scott was the first of several potential candidates to come into Holgate which bodes well for the future of the lodge and freemasonry in Barnsley.

Our February lodge was another successful evening which saw the second initiation of 2024, Brother Ben Hopper.

We were honoured to have the Assistant Provincial Grand Master. Christopher Allen PJGD in attendance for the proceedings.

A very poignant festive board followed, which I'm sure was enjoyed by all the brethren present!

Monday the 20th of November saw the inaugural lodge gathering of our newly installed Worshipful Master!

A most pleasant evening was spent in the company of our brethren and that of our visiting brethren.

The lodge business included Brother Malcolm Middlebrook receiving his Grand Lodge Certificate and a charity talk from Worshipful Brother Chris Beaumont (a very insightful and informative delivery on charity donations)

A proper winter warmer of a festive board followed and I'm sure all but one person appreciated the inclusion of Henderson's Relish !!!!!!!

The raffle raised a fantastic £230 which will be made up to £300 as is the way we do it at Holgate!

This will be donated to "The Judith House - Women and Children's Refuge"

a truly worthy cause.

A special mention has to go to the visiting brethren of Bretton Priory Lodge 5744 who attended en masse to claim the Barnsley area Travelling Gavel! (well done to them but it's early days ;)

A fantastic first time outing for our WM well done to everyone for making it so!!

Installation of our new Worshipful Master into TheHolgate Lodge 4792

DSC_3845A.JPG

Monday October the 16th we had the privilege of witnessing Bro Robert Myers being installed as Master of The Holgate Lodge 4792.

The ceremony was a credit to the hard work of the brethren which was acknowledged by Worshipful Brother Paul Kershaw PPJGW the representative of the Most worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Yorkshire West Riding.

Steering the proceedings was our exiting Master W Bro Chris Beaumont under the ever-watchful eye and rock steady guidance of our D.C WBro Ray Hooley.

The atmosphere of the whole evening was further enhanced by the fine voice of WBro Phil Hunt and the musical prowess of WBro David Shaw which captured the solemnity to perfection.

WBro Ian Schofield presented WBro Chris Beaumont with his IPM bar and delivered a very poignant speech highlighting Chris’s tremendous contribution to Freemasonry and his tireless effort as Charity Steward over many, many years!

Wbros Ivor Patrick and Mike Simmons addresses to the Master and Wardens were flawless in their delivery and were a credit to them and their vast knowledge.

The ceremony was topped off by Chris presenting a promissory cheque to WBro Kershaw in aid of the 2028 Festival. Chris did it as only Chris could in his own unique humorous fashion (you had to see it to appreciate it) and it was well received by all.

Retiring to the dining hall, a Festive Board of Roast Beef and all the trimmings came in timely fashion to the delight of all there.

The toasts and speeches were where our new WM Rob really came into his element as he usually does when he has an audience.

WBro Kershaw delivered his response covering various topics but emphasised how important encouragement and support is key to going forward and the importance of embracing The Members Pathway to strengthen the future of Freemasonry.

A very touching speech by WBro Ray Hooley that included an acknowledgement to our late beloved WM Jack Crowther certainly brought a tear to a few eyes in a nice way to remember him.

The raffle raised £201 which was due to the generosity of the visiting brethren and Holgate alike. This was rounded up to £300 by the charity fund and will go to the charity humankindcharity.org.uk  nominated by Bro Wayne Salter.

Congratulations to our New WM Rob whom we know will give it one hundred percent to make it an amazing year with new incoming members to further bolster the strength of Holgate Lodge into the future.

Rob pictured with our much missed Worshipful Master the late Jack Crowther.

We are sure Jack would have been extremely proud to see Rob come this far in his Masonic Journey!

Our June and last lodge meeting before our summer recess was a ladies after lodge!

We were graced with a performance by the

"Barnsley Ilesha Ladies Choir"

who performed a series of songs from popular musicals!

This was a great evening enjoyed by all the Brethren and their guests!

The evening was topped off by the presentation of cheque to the choir from Holgate Lodge for £500 !

The choir have agreed to return for our Christmas Concert a popular evening always well

attended.

The Ilesha Ladies Choir is a well established choir in the Barnsley, South Yorkshire area.

They take their name from the late Sheila Hoddle, a great lady and talented musician.

They sing in three-part harmony (soprano, mezzo soprano and contralto)

Their repertoire is varied and includes songs from shows, traditional tunes and modern.

They are always looking for new, talented ladies to join them!

Brother Malcolm Middlebrook presenting a cheque for £300 to the " Forget-Me- Not - Children's Hospice" . Proceeds were from the raffle held by the brethren and visitors of Holgate Lodge 4792!

The Hospice is a registered charity based in Huddersfield that supports children with life - shortening conditions, their families and those families living with the loss of their child.

The charity was established in 1998 by a local lady who had a real need for support with her terminally ill son, but found none.

With the help of friends she set about raising funds which resulted in the successful opening of the hospice in 2011.

Grateful thanks must go to Imogen Longdon (pictured) who is part of a tireless fundraising team !!
